Very sorry to hear about John Summerbell. It was only at the weekend just gone that I heard he was dying of Cancer, but the source was clearly not aware that he had already died. John originally joined the Winchester Table Tennis league playing for King Alfred Boy’s Club and appears in the leading averages with his brother Paul during the season 1974 / 75.... He joined Winnall the following season (1975 / 76) with his brother Paul and the three of us played in the same team for that season. We had six teams that season and we were in the ‘D’ team. There were 4 divisions that season and John finished the season with 94%, Paul 92% and me a lowly 69%. Not bad for junior players (not me)!! John continued playing for us, with his last season in the ‘Winchester’ league being 1981 / 82.
